My high school exchange student from Queensland, Marilyn, has a son and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Tamara, who live in Melbourne. We had the extreme pleasure of spending the afternoon and evening with them on Friday. They treated us like royalty with an elaborate lunch on an old refurbished tram car turned into a restaurant. The tram car drove around the city while we drank champaign and ate pâté, kangaroo (more like beef than chicken!), a lovely Australian fish, and then the main course of beef and veggies followed by cheeses. All of this was accompanied by a lovely Australian red wine. Brendan is working on a degree in philosophy and Tamara is an architect specializing in hospitals. They also took us to see the splendid State Library - which is one of their favorite buildings in Melbourne. after another real tram ride or two we ended the evening at a delightful Greek restaurant. Thank you, Brendan and Tamara, for your warm welcome and generous hospitality! We hope to see you in the States one of these days! I can't wait to see your Mum!
Join us as we head down under to Australia and New Zealand, a part of the world completely new to us but inhabited for a long, long time. Our blog address is ozandkiwi2013 because Australia is sometimes called "Oz" and the New Zealand people are affectionately called "Kiwis" for the bird very common in that country. Both countries have very rich histories and cultures; we want to share as much adventure as we can with our young grandchildren and other friends and family!
