On a glorious desert evening under the stars at the Olive Pink Botanic Garden Cafe in Alice Springs our group of 30-some travelers enjoyed an Australian steak "barbie" and stories and songs... a whole repertoire of outback and Australian ditties. Wendy was pressed into service accompanying us on the lagerphone (a vertical pole covered with beer bottle caps, with cross pieces of board, played and pounded with a notched stick!). It sounded fabulous!?!
"Dessert" was a presentation on the southern hemisphere sky. Orion was standing on his head, and the southern cross just visible on the horizon. Cool.
Google "Olive Pink" to find out more about this outback woman... She sounds fascinating.
Join us as we head down under to Australia and New Zealand, a part of the world completely new to us but inhabited for a long, long time. Our blog address is ozandkiwi2013 because Australia is sometimes called "Oz" and the New Zealand people are affectionately called "Kiwis" for the bird very common in that country. Both countries have very rich histories and cultures; we want to share as much adventure as we can with our young grandchildren and other friends and family!
