Art Everywhere

Our last day in Melbourne was full and fine. The morning was spent at the National Gallery of Victoria on Federal Square, housing Australian art spanning pre-Colonial to current times. Melbournites are happy to spell out how their city bests Sydney (the rivalry is significant, but we haven't noticed any truly hard feelings associated with it).

Without taking sides, we can just say that today (Friday, Feb. 1)  was a special look at a busy but mellow, highly arts-oriented, walkable city. Our morning was spent at the National Gallery of Victoria on Federal Square, housing Australian art pre-Colonial to contemporary. Here are some images of contemporary Aboriginal art. We are gaining an understanding of the connection indigenous people's of Australia have to their landscape, reflected so strongly in their art -- in sand and rocks, body painting, bark, and more recently canvas.

  1. Two images of aboriginal art are visible here and a fun image of Wendy and the desert music.

No images came through for the posting of the Northern Territory flag nor the views from Sydney.

Thank you for the educational blog posts. I'm enjoying the virtual trip.
