What a neat city, Wellington! Did you know it is, in all the world, the capital city closest to the South Pole? Today's glorious weather was "just right" -- temperate and breezy -- perfect for seeing the sights, the Harbour and the hills dotted with houses and coming down to the sea.
One of our main destinations was the Te Papa Tongarewa, National Museum of New Zealand, set boldly along the harbour. It presented a very intriguing mix of exhibits highlighting the history and culture of Maori peoples and the islands' natural history, plus a revealing current exhibit about refugees from the world over who have come here for sanctuary. Among the most touching to me were documents and artifacts showing how Maori elders have worked hard to pass along the arts and traditions of their culture.
Here is a bit more about Aotearoa and Maori culture.
